Hi, my name is Ben Walker-Story. Lately, whenever I get a quiet moment I like to sit down and draw some goths and just think about the things that goths have taught me throughout my life. So join me!
Let's draw Goths.
This girl reminds me of one of the girls I hung out with when I was a freshman in high school and the night that the two of them decided to take me to an all-ages goth club. They rummaged through my closet and found a couple passable pieces of clothing and showed me how to wear it with like, the top button done up. I appreciated that because a year earlier I showed up for my first school dance dressed, basically like 1980s Jerry Seinfeld. And that did not go well for me. So they took me to this club. It was in the basement of a fun center called the Gold Mine so the basement was called the Mineshaft. That's where I heard Sex-Dwarf for the first time.
You know, it was all a lot to take in. It was kind of scary. Then we went out back where the young people would smoke their clove cigarettes (don't do it, kids) and these young people back there, they were so nice and instantly accepting of me, to a point where I had never even really experienced that from a kid who I didn't know. Maybe ever. They were so the opposite of their appearance and I realized: Oh these are the nice kids, just like me. The creatives who get bullied. And this look that they've taken on, it's like they're the colorful salamanders you know? Birds see these crazy colors on a salamander and they just think “nope I'm gonna pass on that one because I don't know what's gonna happen to me if I mess with it!”. I think that's all these kids want. They may even have somebody at home who they want to just leave them alone. And not mess with them, please! That's all. Be kind to the goths and love them. And and don't don't eat them.
