Let's Draw Goths! Man with Cutout of David Bowie

IMG_0529.jpg

This week on Let’s Draw Goths, I talk about how artists can stop being a slave to reference photos and start incorporating the mysterious magic of the universe. Pulling inspiration from Stephen King's book, On Writing and expanding on it while I draw a goth man holding a large cardboard cutout David Bowie / Ziggy Stardust.

Let's Draw Goths is an ongoing series of meditative sketches of people with dark, alternative style. Artist Ben Walker chats about life, art, and gothic / Industrial culture.

Let's Draw Goths

Lately, when I get a moment alone, I’ve been sitting down to draw goths. It reminds me of some of the good times and life lessons I’ve learned around goths, their music fashion and culture. Now, you can see a quick time-lapse of each drawing and hear a short “gothic tale” every Wednesday and Saturday. Follow me on Instagram (IGTV) and/or Subscribe on Youtube.

Monster Funk - A Coloring book with stank

There’s a lot out there in movies, literature and comics about monsters. But no one is addressing something that should be obvious. Monsters smell very bad.

In Monster Funk, the new coloring book for grown-ups, young adults (and cool kids 9-12) Ben Walker-Storey explores all the foul odors that affect many of your favorite creatures from pop culture, all illustrated with Ben’s unique twist. Each monster comes with it’s own humorous story page too.

Whether you are a fan of classic horror movies, dumb, gross jokes (Think Mad Magazine meets Famous Monsters) or just love to color for relaxation, you will want to pick up a copy of Monster Funk,

An Illustrator Shows Cult Movie Clips To His Wife - A New Podcast

The Cheap Chills Show - A new podcast from Ben & Amanda Walker Storey

The Cheap Chills Show - A new podcast from Ben & Amanda Walker Storey

I have been trying to pick out a good movie to watch with my wife for 7 and a half years. I scroll through the options on streaming sites like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hoopla while Amanda gets sleepy.

My favorite are the spooky, old movies from the 70s and 80s. Event though obscure genre films aren't really Amanda's jam, she always gives them a shot with an open mind. But she does say what she feels and she has a wit sharper than Michael Myers' butcher knife.

That sounds like a podcast to me! And so it is. The Cheap Chills Show.

Having a monster-ific podcast is a great excuse to make original art for T-shirts and such. So we do! And they're available on Amazon.com. That means if you're a Prime member you don't even pay shipping. Rad.

Listen to Ben and Amanda watch trailers and clips then launch into discussion, pondering on things like movie titles, posters and VHS boxes, childhood fears, are you still reading this? It's free. Just listen.

Go to CheapChillsFanClub.com for new episodes, or however you get podcasts, through iTunes, Stitcher, Soundcloud. If you like what you hear, please share the show with your friends!

Oh, also Ben and Amanda lived in San Francisco for 7 years and have amassed an amazing set of friends; artists, comedians, and other notable weirdos who you've totally heard of. These people will eventually be talked into coming onto the show to share weird and scary clips.

If you are one of those friends (from the past or future) who would like to guest on the show and tell us about a scary or weird movie from your childhood, send me a message!

-Ben
